Ottawa Ball is a website for the Ottawa Intermediate Men's Basketball League (OIMBL). The OIMBL site allows the league managers to publish the schedule, create new seasons, divisions, teams, players, informational pages, stories (blog-like), forums, and polls. League manages can update player statistics and game scores on a weekly basis, manage user accounts, and a simple mass contact email system to send emails to all players or captains directly from the site.
There is an important self-service aspect to this site whereby players can register themselves with their profile information and join a team (this is the normal method), they can comment on stories, post forum topics, and contact other players via private contact forms.
The website itself is organized to publish the latest standings, player statistics, leading scorers, and other report-type pages such as the player list, the spares list, the teams list. The schedule can also be posted in various ways (currently the league managers have opted for an attached Word document). The player profile page is also spiced up to show the players basic info and his history season over season. The individual team page is also spiced up to show the player listings with their stats and the teams stats.
The major advantage is that the league owners have full control over the content and are self-sufficient season over season without needing to incur new development costs every year.
