Wow, this past year was most certainly one for the history books.

2020 was filled with many learning experiences, in which we can grow and develop from, as we enter a new year with new possibilities.

Next year will be a year of growth for many of us, which is why it’s important to get a head start on your New Year marketing efforts, so that you can stand out from all the noise and increase in sales.

Here are 4 marketing tips to boost sales in the new year.

Review website and marketing performance

How do you expect to improve ROI and sales from one year to the next if you don’t track and analyze your performance from the previous year?

Whether you’re reviewing social media insight, website analytics, SERP, or past advertising campaign performance, all these metrics can be telling of how well your business performed, and can give you insight on how to improve your efforts moving forward in order to boost sales.

Ask yourself these questions when reviewing your annual performance and analytics:

  1. What worked, what didn’t work, and what could be improved?
  2. Did you try new marketing ventures that didn’t pay off as expected? Did any venture end up paying off big?
  3. What were the biggest sources of your business’ success?
  4. Were there peak times throughout the year when you had increased sales?

Although it seems time-consuming to go back and look at a year’s worth of insight and analytics across various areas of marketing and business efforts, informing yourself on your business’ performance is crucial if you want to ensure that you are making the most effective decisions and investments within your marketing efforts, so that you can boost sales and keep on top of your goals.

Learn more about your customers through testimonials

Incorporating testimonials into your marketing strategy is a fantastic way to learn more about your customers, increase brand credibility and boost conversions online, thus leading to increased sales.

As e-commerce and online shopping for both products and services become more and more prevalent, customers depend on testimonials now, more than ever, when making purchases online.

Asking satisfied customers to leave you a review online, whether it be on Yelp, Google Reviews, or other platforms, can increase your business’ trustworthiness and credibility, which gives other customers the confidence to invest in your products and services. Create a template that you can reuse over and over when asking for reviews and customize certain aspects of it.

Revamp your website and online presence

It’s important to keep up with modern practices when it comes to your online presence. Technology is ever evolving, and if you don’t keep up with the times, your business may stay stagnant and overall sales may take a hit in the process.

A simple website facelift or social media revamp may be just what your business needs in order to draw more attention and boost online sales.

Website redesign:

A website needs to be clean, professional, and user-friendly if you want to convert users and increase sales.

Now, I’m not saying you need to completely tear down your old website and create a brand-new one, but I highly recommend informing yourself on best practices of web design, and to ensure that your website is up to date, for both stylistic reasons and safety reasons.

For example, we recently helped one of our clients, CARWH, with a website redesign.

The client’s old site was outdated and not user-friendly. The website’s navigation did not follow best practices for web design, as subpages were not linked within the primary navigation bar. Instead, they were linked on the primary pages themselves, which made it difficult to locate webpage info.

Certain pages, in particular the homepage, were very text-heavy and the font was quite small, which made these pages difficult to read. Furthermore, the RSS and email links were also out of date, as the client no longer used RSS to send out email blasts and monthly newsletter.

After redesigning the client’s website, we were able to improve user experience and make the website look much more fresh and modern.

Social media revamp:

Social media is a powerful tool when it comes to generating more sales and leads.

It allows you to connect with your current customers and target customers, all while building brand credibility online. Social media platforms are a great place to find sales leads, through both organic content and paid advertising content.

In order to effectively connect with users and boost sales through social media, you first need to ensure that you have clear and consistent messaging across your social media platforms, appealing social profiles, and links to your website on all your social media pages.

A social media revamp could help you ensure all the above, and it could even allow you to really nail down your brand message and goals.

Focus on local SEO

There’s a lot of talk nowadays about the importance of SEO, but what about LOCAL SEO in particular?

Local SEO is the process of optimizing your online presence to attract business from relevant local searches. You are essentially targeting users that are searching for terms related to your business, products, or services within your area.

Through local SEO, you are also able to reach customers who are already ready to make a purchase.  80% of local searches that are performed on mobile devices convert into sales. This can be attributed to the fact that local SEO puts you in front of the customer at the exact moment they’re searching for a product or service, making them much more likely to purchase or at least inquire for more information.

To Summarize

Although following these marketing tips above can’t necessarily guarantee increased sales, practising these items and seeing what works best for you will ensure that you are managing your business marketing efforts effectively, thus likely leading to positive results in regard to sales.

Having a good idea of customer habits, marketing performance, and keeping up with best practice in regard to online marketing and technology will expedite the process of business improvement.
